Element of Prime is a five-part recorder consort,
consisting of Carin van Heerden, Magdalena Rath, Domenika Thanner, Veronika Traxler, and Michaela Vaught.
The diversity of the instrument family and the harmony of these instruments in the consort represent the crowning glory (“prime,” meaning highlight and crowning glory) of music-making for the five musicians. They share a fervent love of the “Flaute dolce” and founded the ensemble in 2015 at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.

About us
Since its founding in 2015, the ensemble has performed at the Brucknerhaus in Linz, Porgy & Bess in Vienna, the Danube Festival in Strudengau, and was a guest on Albert Hosp’s show on Ö1. In the 2019/2020 season, Element of Prime could be heard throughout Austria as part of the Jeunesse program. In February 2024, an extensive tour took the musicians to South Africa, where they participated in outreach programs and joined forces with well-known local vocal ensembles. Element of Prime likes to combine Renaissance music with contemporary works in its concert programs, often in close collaboration with composers. Their first CD, entitled “Most Eloquent Music,” celebrates English music from the time of William Shakespeare and was released in April 2025 (Label Querstand).
