Early music – reinterpreted – Music in Shakespeare’s time

Starting this season, the Ö1 radio series “Alte Musik – neu interpretiert” (Early Music – Reinterpreted) will once again be broadcast live once a month from the ORF Radiokulturhaus’s Radiocafé. The series kicks off with the recorder consort Element of Prime, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and recently released its debut album: “Most Eloquent Music” presents music from the English Renaissance around 1600. Ensemble founder Carin van Heerden is also the founder and co-director of the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, which also recently released a CD featuring overtures by Georg Philipp Telemann.

What distinguishes music from the pre-classical period: the instruments, the playing styles, the artistic means of expression, the freedom of interpretation? What decisions need to be made when performing and generally “practicing” early music? In addition to the musical performances of the guests, such fundamental questions will also be discussed in the live broadcasts of “Early Music – Reinterpreted.”
